Descrizione: „The seeds of fruit must not be grounded“ – this quote by Goethe was often used by artist Käthe Kollwitz to argue for peace. Her work on her famous anti-war monument and thinking about how an art work is created is the topic of this film. Kollwitz lost her beloved son Peter in WWI. She started to work through the pain on a monument for her son. She starts to oppose the war, becomes politically active for the left-wing, draws the hungry people, the mothers who cannot feed their children any more. When the monument is erected in 1932 on a Belgian military cemetery soldiers are marching again in Germany. In 1939 her grandchild Peter dies and she draws the mother who hides her children – the seeds of fruit – under her skirt and says No!
